about

This album is a Test (hence the name) at making Noise Music (and all the other genres that overlap with it). The reason we chose to make Noise Music as well as the reason why we admire it so much is because:

1. It is, by definition, Radical and Revolutionary
2. It is relatively easy to make (at least in regards to other types of music which require Music Theory, practice, ability to play an instrument etc.)
3. Basically no-one else is doing it in Australia

Like our previous Test(icle), this album (which is also our first) was made entirely by sampling small clips from the Death Grips song: Cut Throat (Instrumental). It was also composed, like Test(icle), in Adobe Audition using simple cutting, volume adjustment, making the sound faster/slower, layering sounds on top of one another etc. This album is based on the previous Test(icle) and expands the individual sections of it as well as adding some new songs as well. Each song is short with most at less than a minute in length. This was inspired by the short lengths of Grindcore songs (and the various other genres inspired by Grindcore), as well as the fact that this is just a Test, so we figured the songs shouldn’t be too long. We also usually prefer media to be short, simple and sweet rather than potentially long and bloated. We may make another version of Test(icle) at some point.

This marks the first time we’ve ever had lyrics in our music, which consist of the titles of the songs being shouted at the beginning followed by a 1-2-3-4 count. This was inspired by the band: The Gerogerigegege. The lyrics were recorded in a closet with a smartphone and then the decibels were raised in Adobe Audition to make it more loud and noisey.

The songs are grouped together in twos (aside from THERE IS NO AUTHORITY BUT YOURSELF!), which is reflected in the similar titles. Each group features a more basic song first, which is then followed by a more complex, noisey version. Like last time, we’ve also experimented with beat-like compositions (specifically on FUCK ART SNOBS! and THERE IS NO AUTHORITY BUT YOURSELF!).
Our cover art is more complex and was worked on longer than that of Test(icle). The ‘peace’ sign was taken from a poster of the film Johnny Got His Gun, and the border with text saying ‘Revolution is Fun is Revolution’ etc. was inspired by the album covers of the Punk band Crass. The cover art was made in Adobe Photoshop.

All of our song titles (and subsequent lyrics) feature strong pro-Leftist and post-Leftist themes. We decided on the most obvious and all-encompassing titles relating to our ideas. Here is an explanation behind them.

REVOLUTION NOW! / LIBERATION NOW!

As the titles make obvious, these two songs call for immediate Revolution and Liberation, specifically towards a Left-wing or post Left-wing society. We view Revolution and Liberation to be synonymous because the only way we will be Liberated is through Revolt and the only good form of Revolt is one that is Liberating.

WORLD VEGANISM NOW! / VEGAN INTERNATIONALISM NOW!

The transition from an omnivorous diet and lifestyle to a Vegan diet and lifestyle is needed now more than ever, both because non-human Animals should be treated as equals (or at least relative equals) to Humans and because the Animal Industries have a very negative impact on the Environment. These songs call for immediate adoption of these proposals because they will save all Animals, both Human and non-human. We also call for more Vegan food to be made available and to improve its taste so that people will want to eat it. For more information on Veganism and the reasons behind it, we recommend the Wikipedia article on it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veganism.
"Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way." – PETA Slogan

WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE! / PROLETARIAN INTERNATIONALISM NOW!

‘Workers of the World Unite’ is a famous slogan by Karl Marx from his famous work ‘The Communist Manifesto’. As the slogan implies, it calls on the working class (or proletarians) of the world to unite and defeat their enemies (the bourgeois, the state, etc.). There may be two questions asked in regards to this idea.

1. (To the uninitiated in regards to Left-wing politics) What’s so significant about the working class?
2. (To the initiated in regards to Left-wing politics) Why Internationalism instead of nationally or locally?

To answer question 1, the working class (that is, everyone who is employed by someone and not an employer [ie: business owner/capitalist) is generally the most downtrodden and oppressed group of people in the world, and the only one that can effectively organise to change the system and create Revolution, thereby eventually creating a Communist society, free of hierarchy, money, state, etc. (according to Marx at least, we somewhat agree with this but don’t believe in it as fundamentally as some Leftists do).
To answer question 2, we must view the world (and eventually the universe) altogether, for if we only set our sights as short as nationally/locally, we are missing potential allies/information/history etc. on the world stage. Technically, we would be promoting both Internationalism and local politics, and while we would obviously be most concerned with what’s happening on our doorstep, we need to look beyond it. It is comparable to the dichotomy between an ideal and the material since you obviously have to work with what you have materially but you should never forget what you’re trying to ultimately make.

REVOLUTION IS FUN! / FUN IS REVOLUTION!

As these titles (and our band name) imply, we believe that Revolution (and all other political action) should be Fun! We also believe that having Fun is Revolutionary in and of itself because our current system frequently tries to strangle all Fun out of our everyday lives, whether it be through work, poverty (or threat thereof), compulsory education etc. We are heavily influenced by post-left groups such as the Yippies and essays such as Crimethinc’s ‘Your Politics Are Boring as Fuck’, which call upon political action and theory to be fun and enjoyable in general because not only will people like to do them (because Fun is Fun!), it will cause a revival in class and political consciousness (which we are already somewhat seeing currently in 2018). Remember, REVOLUTION IS FUN IS REVOLUTION!

FUCK THE WORKERS STATE! / NO STATE FUCK YEAH!

In these two songs, we state our strong belief in Anarchism, or more specifically, the belief in there being no government/state. The first song though takes on a sacred cow of Authoritarian Leftists: the workers state/dictatorship of the proletariat. We are no friends of Authoritarian Leftists because not only has Authoritarian Leftism in the past lead to, at best, ineffective states, and, at worst, crimes against humanity, but it is also hypocritical and counter-productive to be against hierarchies and states and yet advocate for them, even if they are only to exist in the short term, which they never have. We believe that power corrupts and so we should try to consciously eradicate all power, especially the State and Capitalism. A Dictatorship of the Proletariat is still a Dictatorship! Everybody for Prime Minister!

END CAPITALISM NOW! / NO MONEY FUCK YEAH!

As the titles make obvious, these songs are calls to immediately end Capitalism and all concepts associated to or similar to it (such as money, work etc.). Capitalism, Money, and Work are three horrible ideas that combine to make an extremely terrible one. When you work for an employer, you make far less money than the bosses/higher ups do, and subsequently you have far less power than they do. Having less money (and having to continuously do something you almost certainly don’t like doing) means you have less political power (have you ever noticed that some of the most powerful people in the world are also the richest?). Capitalism and its assorted hell-spawn also maintain economic inequality which subsequently contributes to social and political inequality (name a Capitalist country that has eliminated poverty or homelessness etc.). In short, under Capitalism, the people are subservient to Money rather than Money being subservient to the people. We instead advocate for a Gift Economy, which is an economy where goods and services are not bought or sold but given without an expectation for anything in return, much like a gift, hence the term Gift Economy.

FUCK ART SNOBS! / ALL ART IS VALID!

In case you haven’t noticed, we make what would be called ‘experimental’ and ‘alternative’ music. These two songs are two big middle fingers, both to people who don’t think Noise Music is music and also to people who try to control what Art is or isn’t (for example the NAZIS!). Technically anything can be Art and we celebrate this as well as the liberatory power of Art (as long as it’s Fun!).

THERE IS NO AUTHORITY BUT YOURSELF!

The title is a slogan created by the Punk band Crass which calls for questioning and fighting of authority and a strong sense of individualism. Another way to put it would be the famous hippie slogan: ‘Do your thing’, that is, do what you want and don’t let anything stop you. Another way to put it would be the phrase ‘Kill your Idols’ etc. We are Egoists (of the Stirner kind) and greatly appreciate his works and subsequent works of other Egoists (which is seeing a resurgence on the Internet recently in 2018).
